EVERY FOLD WOMAN HAS A UNIQUE STORY TO TELL

‘NO WOMAN IS AN ISLAND.’

HER STORY

ALEX GREENWOOD

One of the country’s most decorated and experienced football players, Manchester City defender Alex Greenwood gives her take on what success looks like.

ON DISCOVERING FOOTBALL: I spent my childhood playing football on the streets in Bootle, Liverpool. I’ve always been obsessed with the game and had a lot of support from my family from the start – my mum would say that as soon as I could walk, I was kicking a ball! I didn’t think I’d be where I am today but always had the aspiration and dedication.

ON HER PROUDEST MOMENT: I think my proudest moment so far is winning the Euros last summer. To achieve a trophy with your country is something I've always dreamed about. And to do it at Wembley, in front of your home fans and family, I don't think you'll ever be able to beat that.

ON HER STYLE: Fashion is a big thing of mine away from football. I love trying new things. It can show your personality: you can present who you are in clothes and shoes. I like to try and put different outfits together and see how they look. I really enjoy dressing other people too.

‘The girls in the dressing room were so important to me and I saw the value of teamwork.’

ON CAMARADERIE: Living away from home in France when I was playing for Lyon was a great experience and I learned a lot about myself. The girls in the dressing room were so important to me and I saw the value of teamwork. You can see the same togetherness in the Manchester City team.

ON PREPARATION: I’m very organised but, if something goes wrong, it won’t rock me. I like to prepare in the same way for home games and away games: good sleep, good food, a good training week and knowing my job come the weekend. Caffeine is also really important!

ON HER MOST POWERFUL
PIECE OF ADVICE FOR OTHER WOMEN:

‘Success is a journey not a destination.’
