An award-winning interior designer, entrepreneur and TV presenter, Francesca Rowan-Plowden rose to fame as a favourite on BBC’s The Traitors. As the mother of four sons with a career in full bloom, Frankie is no stranger to spinning life’s many plates – and the importance of staying true to her own creativity throughout it all.

She shares the upside of setbacks, how clothes are the key to confidence, and why sometimes it’s better to be the tortoise than the hare.

‘Interiors and fashion are intrinsically linked. It’s how you project yourself, how you make yourself feel good.’

‘I like doing things that are fun, interesting and important.’

‘Fashion is something I’ve always felt comfort in. If I'm feeling low that day, then an outfit will give me confidence and uplift me. If I want to be creative, it’s a way of expressing myself through colour or pattern. It’s an extension of me, and how I express myself.’

‘My version of career success is to be able to provide for myself and my children, to be independent while being creative, and really enjoy what I'm doing. If I tick all those boxes, then I feel like I'm being successful.’

‘I think you appreciate the successes more because of the setbacks.’

‘My career advice is to be tenacious at all times, but trust in timing. Not everything has to happen all at once. I think sometimes there's a lot of pressure, especially on women, to get everything done at the same time. To be the mum, the career woman, to succeed at school, university, and then get straight into work and then have a family. Sometimes that's just not possible. You may not be reaching your career goals when you thought you were going to, but it doesn't mean that you won’t reach them later on.’
