In the past 20 years, the number of women working in IT has halved, with females now making up just 16% of the industry. Setting out to readdress this gender imbalance by highlighting the roles that women play in the industry, last month saw the first Women in IT awards take place. Held in the grandiose setting of the Grosvenor House Ballroom, Park Lane, The Fold was amongst the proud brand partners.
Team Fold was in attendance at the event, which included a three course sit down dinner (we loved the dessert – marmalade brownie with smoked salted caramel created by chocolatier Paul A Young!), followed by the awards ceremony itself. Winners encompassed a broad spectrum of businesses including London Borough of Camden, Royal Mail and Tesco, with the final award of night – the Woman of the Year accolade – going to Emer Timmons of BT Global Services. The winning females each received a £100 Fold London voucher to stylishly reward her incredible achievements. Another highlight of the evening saw a standing ovation for Bletchley Park’s WWII Codebreaker Betty Webb, who presented the Security Champion of the Year award.
Celebratory and empowering, the awards offered a very different picture of the IT industry in contrast to the image the statistics paint. The Fold team would like to congratulate all the nominees and winners of the Women in IT awards, we look forward to meeting in our showroom soon!
