One of our inspiring Fold Women, Catherine Duggan is a frequent business traveller. Here she shares her packing tips and explains how she wore her Le Marais capsule during a recent trip:
Tell us about your most business trip – where did you go and what was the purpose of your trip?
I was in Australia for a week in early December for work, acting as an advisor on a collaborative project about cross-national professional recognition. I travelled to Melbourne and Sydney, attending several meetings and presented a keynote at a national conference at the end of the week – it was a full schedule! I travel a lot with my work. We have several international collaborations underway in the business, which require frequent visits and meetings and I also attend several annual International conferences.
How you go about packing your case when travelling for business? What essentials do you never travel without?
Since my introduction to The Fold, my go-to wardrobe for travelling is Le Marais. I choose a colour combination and then build around it. For example, I took my navy pieces to Australia, with a couple of the pale pink pieces and cream blouses as well. The collection always travel SO well, I am astounded that I can slip on a full suit the day after arriving and there are no creases (which, after a long flight / jet lag may be more than can be said for me!)
It’s so reassuring to know I can rely on these pieces (with co-ordinated shoes / bag / tops and jewellery) time after time. I also pack a range of the tops that can be combined with a skirt to create the appearance of a dress or can dress up the look of the trousers – super! I now take the same approach for business trips in the UK as well, where I may have an all-day meeting, then an evening function, followed by meetings the next day.
Tell us our about your Le Marais capsule – which pieces do you own?
I have most of the pieces in a variety of the colours: Navy, black, pale pink and the burgundy. I also have many (many!) of the dresses and two coats. I’m a true Fold addict! On my most recent trip I packed a full set of navy pieces (a skirt, trousers and tuxedo jacket), then a couple of tops (in navy, pink and cream) as well as the Camelot dress in navy. I took some other more casual pieces (including jeans and lace dresses) and was able to mix these with my Fold jackets.
What is it about the Le Marais collection that works so well for your business trips?
It’s a combination of the way the pieces travel, the fabric and fit and the mix and match concept. I can create a capsule look and feel co-ordinated at all times, using accessories, shoes and handbags to give each outfit a different look. They are my travel staples – I love them!
What are your tips for taking your Le Marais pieces from desk-to-dinner?
I wear either the suit or skirt suit formally during the day and then, simply by changing the tuxedo jacket for a top, adding some different heels and a standout piece of jewellery (I reach for a necklace or a cuff) my look is transformed.
