The Event Dressing Edit

By Mariko Kuo

With event season fast approaching, we asked Mariko Kuo, Lawyer and Fashion Blogger to style her favourite looks for summer events, from City drinks to garden parties.

“I would describe my style as chic with a modern twist.”

Garden Party

F. What do you love about the Avalon?

M. I was immediately drawn to the inky abstract floral print of the Avalon shirt dress as it reminded me of spring and the changing of seasons. I like how this shirt dress feels so luxurious and billows in the spring breeze.

F. Where would you wear this style?

M. I would wear the Avalon everywhere, but particularly to garden parties and any outdoor events.

F. How would you style this dress for different occasions?

M. The Avalon could easily be worn to the office with a structured blazer, but I would save it for special occasions as it is such a standout piece. It would be ideal for polo and the races.

Mariko wears the Avalon Dress in Floral Print Crepe and Hutton Belt Navy.

Mariko’s Top Tips for Dressing for Work in the Summer:

1. Avoid black and dark colours.

2. Wear more prints and try something out of your comfort zone.

3. Mix floaty pieces with tailored looks.

“As a staple for the workplace and a trusted choice for daytime occasions, shirt dresses are the ultimate piece for versatility.”

City Drinks

F. What’s your go-to look for City drinks?

M. The blazer, silk shirt and trouser combination is a fail proof formula for the City. I think this look is perfect for long days in the office followed by drinks with friends, wear with loafers or dress it up with some killer heels.

F. Where’s your favourite place in the City?

M. Temple Gardens. It’s a not-so-well-known lunch time escape.

F. Where do you shop for perfect everyday jewellery and for more special pieces?

M. Monica Vinader is my go-to brand for effortlessly chic jewellery which is understated but stylish enough for the workplace. I recommend Soru Jewellery for pieces that stand out for really special occasions.

Mariko wears the Le Marais Tuxedo Jacket White, Ludlow Blouse White Silk and Le Marais Tailored Trousers Navy.

“Office looks can be easily translated for after dinner do’s with the addition of a pair of chandelier earrings and standout heels.”
